5-12 Pounds

Average Life Span:

12-15 years, but can exceed this life span.

Average Height:

9-12 inches

Exercise and Training:

They love play time, but do not require a lot of exercise.  They are smart and love to learn tricks especially when they know a treat is coming.  🙂

Diet:

Havamalts are considered small breed dogs, which can make them more vulnerable to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) if they don’t eat frequently enough. To help prevent this, it’s important to feed your puppy small meals three to four times a day. Around 3 months of age, their ability to regulate blood sugar improves, and you can begin transitioning them to two or three meals daily.

As adults, Havamalts typically do well with two meals a day—one in the morning and one in the evening. However, because this breed can be prone to obesity, be mindful not to overfeed. Keeping your pup at a healthy weight with proper portion control supports long-term wellness and an ideal body condition score.

It is always best to consult with your veterinarian as to the best diet specific to your pup.  On average, a Havamalt gets between â…“ cup to â…” cup of dry food throughout 2 meals a day.   It is best to avoid giving human food or table scraps as that can lead to excessive weight gain.

Always keep fresh clean water available.  Make sure to clean both water and food dishes on a regular basis.

Minimum of once a week brushing or combing, but best daily.
